Claverdon RFC

46 - 14

(HT 0-0)

Burbage RFC

On Saturday, Claverdon’s 1st XV hosted Leicestershire side, Burbage in the 8th league game of the season. The proved to be a try-fest for the boys in red and white, in a much needed victory!

Claverdon started strong, with an early penalty awarded to the home side. Well within his range, James Williams slotted the kick to gain an early 3-0 lead. Claverdon soon crept back into the Burbage half. A simple, yet effective set play move saw Alex Grove glide over the line, followed by the conversion from Williams. Claverdon were in the driving seat. The highlight score of the game came from a Claverdon line out on the opposition 22. Clean ball to Williams, followed by a miss-pass out wide to Garner-Jones saw him break the line, offload to Grove who then provided George Redwood the opportunity to show his pace, and dive for the corner. Further tries from Josh Evans and Josh Dean saw Claverdon extend their lead going into halftime, despite an opposition driving maul causing Burbage to score.

Burbage showed good heart in the second half. A much more even contest saw a well worked backs move executed. The opposition winger touched down in the corner to take their score line to 14. However, Claverdon proved too strong, with menacing open-play tries from both Charlie Wakelam and Chris Johnson. The match ended 46-14 in favour of Claverdon, and gets the hosts back to winning ways, as they prepare to travel to Woodrush this weekend.
