Claverdon RFC

27 - 5

(HT 0-0)

Rugby St Andrews RFC

Saturday saw Claverdon RFC host Rugby St. Andrews in their first home game of the season. After a dominant away win at Pinley the week before, Claverdon carried great momentum into this game with an early try for Will Jackson. The centre dotted over the line following a well worked Claverdon move. Fellow centre, Sam Turrell added his name to the scoresheet soon after, accompanied by a James Williams conversion to make it 12-0 after 10 minutes. After continued back and forth, Claverdon scored again - a signature breakaway try from James Williams and his deceptive turn of pace. The try scorer then added the 2 points from the conversion. St. Andrews responded later on, fully utilising their heavy forward pack to bully their way up the pitch. The opposition’s Full Back then danced his way to the line to crucially claw back 5 points.

Half time saw the scoreboard at 22-5, with Claverdon knowing that a solid second half would be needed to maintain the lead. Well executed exit play from Claverdon kept St. Andrews at bay, while man of the match, Elliot Saltmarsh carried hard to keep up momentum. With less than 10 minutes to go, a clever backline move saw Full Back, Hilton Garner-Jones split the defence. Great support from debutant, Archie Hinchliffe allowed him to finish the move and see out the game 27-5 to Claverdon. The Red & White travel away to Southam this weekend in the hope of adding another win to their record!
