Claverdon RFC

14 - 34

(HT 0-0)

Lutterworth RFC
Claverdon’s 1st XV hosted Lutterworth II on Saturday afternoon in match day 9 of the league calendar. The two teams were only narrowly separated by 3 points in the league table before the meeting, so a win would have meant a lot for either side.
Lutterworth struck first with a strong display from their pack. A solid scrum in the Claverdon 22 saw their number 8 pick-and-go, and dot over the line. The Lutterworth fly half kicked the extra points and a penalty in quick succession added a further blow to Claverdon’s hopes of winning. With plenty of life left in the game, winger, Gabe Ball showed true grit and determination. Several breaks through the field eventually paid dividends with a try, which was then converted by fullback, Luke Sibley.
The second half was a much more dominant display from Lutterworth. With Claverdon seemingly losing their way, unable to develop multiple phases, Lutterworth struck with several tries. The game appeared to be over with only 15 minutes left on the clock. Claverdon, showing admirable spirit, provided some last minute inspiration with some fantastic phases of play. Strong carries from Adam Wassall and Chris Glover allowed Claverdon to creep towards the Lutterworth line. This culminated in winger, John Grey having the ball out wide and running in a second try for Claverdon. Sibley kicked the conversion from a tight angle, but the damage was already done. Lutterworth won the match 14-34. Claverdon now turn their attention to a local away fixture at Berkswell & Balsall on Saturday.
